Golden lottery tickets are useless.

The literal most efficient way to use a GLT is to put exactly 5% - 100 tickets of the total pool, and that will give you a whopping 10% chance of winning something, and you will get not the prize you wanted among the 5 (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

1) If you can put more than 10% of the total pool, GLT is useless since it won't bump your effective ticket count above that.
2) If you can put between 5.001 and 9.999% of the pool, the GLT will not be fully effective and your chances won't be doubled but multiplied by 1.999~ to 1.001~ times.
3) If you can put less than 5% of the total pool even with the full 20k, your odds will still be abysmal even with the ticket, you're bound to lose >90% of the time anyway.

And lemme tell you, the occasions where you can put 5% are very rare*.
Big lotteries will surpass that amount by many times, making your win chances close to zero, you'll just toss the ticket.
Smaller pools on the other hand, don't need the GLT since you can actually put more than 5% of the tickets just by using your GP.

Still when its Peerless Radiant or a good staff you want as many tickets as possible in the pool no matter how low your chances. RNG is also a bitch and you shouldn't expect to win anything at all no matter how many tickets you put in. A few weeks ago I had 60% of the tickets for a relatively small pool and won nothing. I think it was 8k ticket pool and I put in 11k for a 19k pool all together. Not even the candy, chaos, or GTL to show for all that gp.

Golden Lottery Ticket is only worthwhile if you can spend a large number of tickets. I used it once, along with 2500 tickets (out of a total of 73957), and won the fifth prize (74 Chaos Tokens). I agree with pretty much all this. Condition 3) is basically what the golden lottery ticket is for and when it should be used. Abysmal odds are not, it's basically a permission card to throw down with the big boys on a particular great item that shows up.

It'll be up to you to decide if the pot size of a rich item is worth the cost (I just calculate the credits size of the whole pot). For such items almost everyone is going to use a GLT so throwing one in would seemingly have no effect on your odds. But if you didn't throw a GLT in you're doubly worse, so if you don't have a GLT you essentially have no permission to bid.

With that limitation though, I guess the GLT could be useless for most players' wallets. Even if the pot size were cost effective, I don't think I should throw into a PHOH lottery with a GLT because I'm just not that rich and it's not worth it for me to aim so high.

I'd like to get a Peerless Ethereal or Demonic Rapier of Slaughter though one day, and if the pot size is cost effective I think a GLT works perfectly for that.
