It should be pointed out though that even if OFC/Frenzy are clearing out half the enemies and thus reducing DW elemental strike to 5% of overall
damage, in terms of real time the DW elemental strike could still be considered to be the full 10% or so (assuming that OFC/Frenzy are cast fairly quickly and do not take up significant time).
So DW is probably by far the melee style that best utilizes elemental strikes. Also spike shields are more effective in DW and 2H than in 1H, because 1H stuns all the enemies and reduces the number of infected targets.
Arctic, Shocking, Tempestuous, and Fire when paired with their spike shields may all be better than Dark/Holy against regular monsters in the DW style.
Even though the difference is small I do think that trying to get a good elemental strike can be useful. I
estimated a year ago that a typical difference in elemental strike (+10% compared to the next worser strike) is overall worth 2 Butchers.
Back then I didn't consider this dilution issue for 1H and 2H so for those styles a better elemental strike would only be worth 1 Butcher. For DW still 2 Butchers. And considering that Cold Strike these days is unexpectedly 10% stronger than Dark/Holy...it could be 20% stronger than them on DW (better spike shield) so cold strike DW could be worth 4 Butchers.
People reforge to get Butcher, so if you have enough money I think it's not necessarily a waste to reforge or buy for specific elements.
