Today i have done 2 GF, the first was pretty easy until the last 2-300 rounds, the second one become hader near round 4-500, so halway trhought, with enemies using much more spirit attacks for massive damages.
I noted it other times, you can see the difficulty pretty soon, sometime there is a spike in IW and GF, where the enemies become much more challenging much faster.
I don't know if is something associated to RNG when you start a battle but i am finally sure about this, happened too much times.
It happen with Arenas too but now i'm too strong to really see much difference, maybe i do DWD in 30-60 seconds more, but i cannot be sure with server speed fluctations.
I think tat might be realted to of the limitation of monster classes you can fight in a single round. As the wiki states:

So instead of a somewhat even distribution of monster's which you are compatible and incompatible with, you might get only types you are weak against, so that may seem like a sudden spike in difficulty.
Another possibility would be monsters' chaos level, which is not factored in, when picking them for the fight.
