Well, you can't treat them all as the same in terms of how much they increase exp gains. If you focus on how much they reduce "days to 500," you can treat them as the same. In the case of your example, gold star, it cuts the remaining number of days in half. How many days that works out to is still dependent on your base exp gains/playstyle choices/other exp boosts.

[*]in general, Stars have the worse ROIs: nothing wrong, since EXP boost is only part of a bigger package.
[*]since they are a free boost, confectionaries obviously modify the situation: while they shift the analysis on a per-use base (since you cannot know in advance what one has and whatnot) this also means that the advantages of a Gold Star grow with the number of cookies it gives you (aka: the less cookies you have, the more appealing a star is)
