Well, my conoys run point to point through several forward operating bases in a region bordering Iran. I really can't say much about my exact location but that should give you an idea. So far, we've taken damage by command wire IED's but luckily all injuries are minimal but I have this annoying ringing in my ears. I've once taken the gunner seat in my MRAP and had to shoot a few hostiles firing those old soviet RPG's and may have killed one or two of them but those bastards are persistent. As far as the rest of my squadron, I coudln't have chosen a better team and will gladly take a bullet for any of them. Usually though, my convoys are uneventful and that is a good thing. Once in Iraq, I was going through Route Irish, the most dangerous convoy route there is but I was attached to an army unit armed to the teeth with MK19's and Ma Deuces and the pretty much obliterated everything in that shoots in their direction. The gunner there wore a skull bandanna to look more menacing and he's the crazy type that you see in movies, a real psychopath and made for war but he's good at what he does. He's stopped a vehicle-borne IED dead in its tracks and EOD came in and blew up the payload along with the driver leaving nothing but a huge gaping crater near Baghdad International Airport.

Still in the sandbox huh. Yeah i fully understand that, only tell where you have been and might go, never where you are right at and plan to go. Damn so IED's for convoys a Road side bomb is the last thing they want to be around, run over or see. It's good the injuries where only small. I have seen pics "Not off the internet" of what they can do to a APC or other mid to light armored vehicle, the damage from them can be fuck'in nasty. Yeah been there done, that fire a belt-fed without hearing protection and that's all your gonna hear for the next day or two but with you you have to hear so most the time hearing protection is out the window. Well that's whats so bad about the PRG-7 dirt cheap to make they can fire it off than drop it and not give a shit, pick up a Ak and be even more deadly. So i have heard, the ones where shit don't go down, other than being bored most the time they are still the best ones. Ah Fuck, Route Irish... stay safe and good luck. The pics i have seen 1st hand was from on Route Irish a IED blown up one Humvee killed two injured the gunner and a APC from the same convoy got blown off the side of road. My friend was in the APC, he side when the ramp drop he came out in full-auto ready to take out a motherfucker. That is one of the most dangerous roads to be on out there. Yet even so just being armed to the teeth with 40mm MK19's is only gonna save you if you are ambused. A IED is not gonna give a damn if you have them or not but yeah that's still some heavy fire power to fuck up whatever comes you way that is bad. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Damn that does sound crazy. I guess he is one of the Bring it on motherfuckers, kind too? Damn..just Damn. I guess you was coming from the Green zone?

I was coming back from the green zone after we established a FOB to create a new supply route. My primary mission is force support and bed down of up to several thousand troops. We were combat engineers and we had to hold our own because we literally build small bases in the middle of nowhere. Rocket and mortar attacks are pretty much common and guaranteed.

FOB Forward operating base for the people here who don't know. That's whats bad about making a FOB in the middle of bum fuck nowhere. No one will really attack you head on for it being way to open, so they use Rocket and mortar's attacks. They can be a few foot fields away almost and bring down some rain on you and you not know where the hell they are. I'm damn sure Rocket and mortars are only fun when they are not coming your way. Oh dear me! Your intelligence is way too much for us all. Spare us from your magic fingers on them keyboard as your words have me paralyzed from the awesomeness of it. Oh wait... that was just gas.
Speaking of gas and/or odiferous things, I once ran over some camels during a convoy and that was quite pungent. I am pretty sure the effluvium will gag a maggot. Fuck this place!

At several occasions, i have seen respectable members being asked the question, sometimes indirectly: "why are you on this forum?". They often ask themselves. The question is often motivated by frustration about the posting quality. But i can't remember ever seeing a convincing answer. I have asked myself this question too, although not publicly. (I don't post often, but i am here almost every day.) I don't have an answer either. But i do have some possible partial explanations, from my own analysis and from this forum. These have come to me in trying to answer my own question, but might be of interest of others struggling with this question too, so i want to share them. I present my possible partial answers as a list. There is some overlap in these, and some can be combined. I think you can figure this out yourself. - This forum is like a zoo, it's fun to look at the monkeys.
- I think i want "intelligent, creative, and original" posts, but really i like trying to be in a fighting gang. Befriend some users, and wage a flame war against another gang. It's human nature to do so.
- Interaction while having to follow some set of rules is straining. It's like doing sports in a tuxedo. Continuing this metaphor, in the FSZ you can run around naked.
- The freedom of the FSZ is addictive. I might visit more civilized places, but i'll miss something, not aware that it is the freedom.
- There might be a lot of crap on this forum, but there are certainly a lot of signs of civilization. In "the wild", i better appreciate the beauty of these. As a metaphor, two images of plant life:
(IMG:[upload.wikimedia.org] http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5c/Strawberry_greenhouse.jpg/800px-Strawberry_greenhouse.jpg) (IMG:[upload.wikimedia.org] http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/90/Sonora_Desert_2007.jpg/800px-Sonora_Desert_2007.jpg)
To gamagaeru: i don't know if you know why you are here, nor if any of my answers are true for you. But IF any of these apply, asking for higher quality posts is silly because: - It's like asking monkeys at the zoo to behave.
- It's a gang sign.
- ?
- It would undo the freedom.
- It's like taking a plow to the desert.
I hope this post is useful to anyone. I would welcome additions to my list.

I hope this post is useful to anyone. I would welcome additions to my list. I am here mostly to vent/rant and just generally bask in the chaos that is here. You metaphors are slightly off. Let me put it this way (time for a fable!): There was this forest. It was lush and verdant and all the animals lived a relatively nice life. The weak were killed off through natural selection. Little rabbits' population were mostly controlled by predators like cougars, bears and wolves. One day, all the predators decided to no longer dine on rabbit and soon these little fuckers overpopulate the place and the whole ecosystem is fucked just because all of a sudden, there's nothing to control their population. The forest becomes less diverse and all you can ever see around you are rabbits. Little fucking rabbits. Natural selection is gone so the place is now overrun by lagomorpha. Am I asking to turn this place into a didactic experience? No. I just want the carrot and stick back. There needs to be somekind of rating system or something to tell others that they have crossed the retarded threshold.

If you just want to rant, you don't need a stick. I have seen enough threads where people have normal conversations/discussions without being bothered (much) by noobs. Really i don't think this place changed much when karma was removed. If you describe yourself as a predator, that means you need prey. So it seems reason #2 of my list does apply to you: you want your friends to fight, and your gang to win.
