"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". So if i put on rose-colored glasses, and i experience something as beautiful that i did not before, have i created beauty? I feel not.

Yet it is possible to find beauty in a place where you previously thought these was none. It involves taking another look, a better look, or from a different perspective. It seems to me, this new look needs to be "honest". rose-colored glasses are "lying".

So my conclusion is that beauty is related to truth.

I just thought up this idea myself. Destroy it please.

OK then... first I will break it down, then I will build it up.

Beauty is the most subjective thing ever. it is an evolutionary trait brought on to differentiate between something that can help us or just a waste of our time but there are exceptions to that rule becausedifferent people have differing levels of proclivity e.g. chubby chasers. Overall, though, we have evolved to see beauty as a benifit to our health e.g. ripe fruits or to pass on our offspring with the best and healthiest mate possible. It also instills a protective instinct in us especially with neoteny because: basic instinct. The standards of beauty may be different between people/cultures Just look at Mexico back then - they considered the unibrow as hot!

The most interesting thing about it is that when applied to people, beauty is the most average face possible (see [www.faceresearch.org] http://www.faceresearch.org/demos/average) that's because that type of person has all the best genetic trait to survive and yes, to carry outoffspring. One cannot judge beauty fully as truth because it is subjective. Beauty may not be truth but it is the spice of life and it is dependent upon our perception, one can alter it to suit themselves and see beauty just as the old Mexicans did in the most unconventional manner if you try. Just think to yourself: "You are beautiful no matter what they say."

I agree with your entire post, but i think you misunderstood mine.

I did not renounce "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", i take that as a given.

I'll translate that given to this:
Certain sensory information generates an experience of beauty in a person.

My point is, that the trustworthiness of this information may influence the experience.

Facial beauty is a bad example for this, but let's consider a story. If you hear a beautiful story, it can me more beautiful if you know it's actually true, or become less beautiful when you learn it was made up.

A more complex application is learning a new aspect of an existing situation. You might experience more beauty from seeing a dead tree in a forest after learning how it's part of a forest's ecosystem, and there is a lot living in, on and from it. In this example, my conjecture states that you can't just make something up about a dead tree to find it beautiful, the beholder needs to trust his information about dead trees to actually find a dead tree (more) beautiful.

It looks like WHY DO I GIVE A FUCK is half way down the list.
