Rome 2. Got it on release day, and it's, strangely, really different from any previous Total War game. It's not bad at all, it's just unrecognizably different (on the campaign map).
The battles are awesome. Shogun 2 had better killing animations, but the actual fighting animations in Rome 2 are superior. I can not wait for Daniu to get the PFM completely working so we can start making detailed mods. Actually, I cant with for the official mod tools.
Anyway, I've been doing a multiplayer campaign with a friend of mine. He's playing Sparta, and I'm doing Athens. The goal was that he'll go west while I go east (and wrap around taking Africa.) Then, we'll meet up in Spain or something and start our epic battle to the death (it's a head-to-head campaign). We've been doing pretty well so far. He's almost to the borders of Italy and I've just taken Crimea and most of the top of the Black Sea.
As for single player, I'm playing as Egypt first. It's quite easy to gain dominance over Africa in early game, at least so far. But, I can only imagine the problems I'll come across once I get into Asia or Europe.
Pilum throwers are my new favourite units. Goodness it's fun to watch people get turned into pin cushions.
