I'm attempting to take another break from Monster Hunter 3 (Wii), though it's debateable how well that's going. So far, I've been cutting my gameplay time down to once this past week. Still have plenty of monsters to kill, equipment to forge, and titles to gain.
I beat White Knight Chronicles (PS3) yesterday. The ending was fuck-awful. Long story short, the after-battle cutscenes in that game are rage inducing; you couldn't get away with the shit that happens in an early NES RPG, nevermind a Console this late into the craze. Without fail, enemies who you were fighting hand-to-hand get cutscene-ported to the opposite side of the battlefield, where they can give long monologues and play a game of cards before casually making their escape. Nevermind that you're supposed to be actively hunting these guys down, you might as well forget ever catching them while they invariably accomplish their goal and gleefully skip away. Not since Luminous Arc 2 have I been this disgusted with a game's plot. /rant
I made it to the halfway point/final save point of the final dungeon in Wild Arms 5 (PS2), then warped out so I could accomplish the endgame content. I've, by now, realized some of the faults of the system, the most glaring of which is the problems with the Hex system. I have a serious case of deja vu, probably mentioned this before, but I will again.
It is not a sign of a difficult game if you only get Game Overs when the enemy ambushes you and kills you without you ever getting a turn. It's a sign of artificial difficulty and bullshit. .-. This is by no means common in the game, but it has happened to me on at least 3 separate occasions now. Also, the Kartikeya duel was bullshit; if you're going to program an instant kill move on a boss that has a one-turn chargeup, do not give that same boss a skill that gives him extra turns, and allow him to stack it so he gets 4-5 turns if he feels like it. /rant 2
My Japanese Coach (DS), every day. I think I'm at the point where I can't simply use the game to refresh/learn anymore; time for me to use it to complement my book-learning. It also has yet to actively teach me any Kanji, which is such an important part of the whole thing. I have to wonder if it's putting them off for fear of turning off most of the customers who bought it.
Also, still Dokapon Kingdom (Wii). We finally are at the end of Chapter 2, fighting Rico Jr.'s doppelganger of whoever duels it. Although, the moment one of us tried it, he was immediately bombarded with curses, debuffs, and heckling, so that ended rather poorly for him. I just changed from being a Thief to a Magician, so I can't cheat my way to victory like I did in Chapter 1 (When someone grabbed the Antidote needed to end the Chapter, myself and another Thief repeatedly swiped it from him before he got back to Dokapon Castle. Unlike the other Thief, however, I had a full inventory, so once I got it, he kept swiping Potions and other things from me, rather than the Chapter MacGuffin.)
