It's not bad really I was expecting sorta bad really after metacritic-ing it. But I thought what the hell I can take it back if I don't like it right?
I'm not so far in but it's an odd plot. I started in 2046 and fought like a shit load of these "shade" things while a book did this SHMUPy thing as a power up and sprouted forks from the ground, which was kinda awesome.
It's really hard to compare it to something because it's like this free roaming action RPG and I want to say Zelda but I keep thinking the fighting is like Bujingai because of the blood and huge combos. It sorta moves into this top down mode too in some places which is sorta neat because honestly the camera would flip the fuck out if it didn't. It goes all Valkire Profile when your in a house too, which is sorta odd.
There is this whole Harvest Moon bit going with growing crops and you can forage for items to construct weapons...the shops are all console RPG standard fare and all this makes the game unique, confusing and well good.
Bottom line is: the combat works well, the camera works well and you never feel your having to fight it or reposition it all the time, it looks good but not great with occational pop-up...it does it's job and it's fun. I can think of worse games to spend £40* quid on...I'm looking at you Battlefield 2:BC and a little at your friend AvP. Bleh.
*$60? I don't know the exchange rate/average game price.
