I use Mozilla as my main browser, and lately when I play EHV the memory usage goes out of control. At first I thought this was just standard EHV lag, but I finally checked task manager and noticed that the usage for firefox (no other tabs/windows open) was 1,200,000K+. I thought there might be a leak of some sort, since when I'm playing it slowly scales up to the heavy-usage amount, but the usage falls dramatically when I'm not playing - back down to a relatively normal idling state of 250,000K+. Also, my cpu doesn't appear to suffer any performance issues afterwards. I typically just have to close the browser and re-open every 60 rounds or so.

I have not observed any fluctuations close to this when using other sites. Just trying to figure out if this behavior is happening to others and is EHV specific, or if something on my cpu clashes with what EHV likes to do.

Thanks for any responses.

I have experienced the same problem a few days ago. A memory usage of about 1.2G in Firefox in about 15 min of play. I disabled HVStat, and it was playable again.

I'm still experiencing slowdowns now and then, but I haven't seen the memory go over 600M (which is still a lot for a game like this).

Also experiencing weird memory usage since 0.76.

As for the steps:

1. Start Firefox (200 MB memory used)
2. Go to e-hentai, login (no change)
3. Start any battle (still no change)
4. Do a round (memory usage rises 5-15 MB a round)
5. Repeat step 4 untill pc fucks up (1,8 GB of memory used)

So it seems to be something that happens in battle.

Edit: Disabling everything resulted in a buildup from 80 MB to 300 MB during battle. After the battle it dropped down to 125 MB

I've noticed this as well.

It doesn't happen in my obsolete Chromium build, but does in the latest Chrome (main) and Canary (dev) builds after a while.

Things don't get as bad as they do in Firefox. Chrome/Canary peak out at around 200MB of memory, whereas Chromium sits at a cushy 30MB.
Disabling third-party extensions/scripts doesn't seem to make a difference.

No memory leaks with Firefox on SL or Arch Linux. They must have screwed the spidermonket build for MS windows (or for the latest FF versions on all OSes, I'm still using FF 17 and FF 18 (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ).

i'm also having this problem.
didn't see this tread so i opened another one.
so i guess i will transfer here.
here a copy of my first post in the other tread:

***

a few days ago firefox asked me to update to 21.0 and i did.
on the other computer i use it is set to update on its own and it did.

so i have two computers with firefox 21.0 and the thing i'm about to describe happens on both of them.

they are both quite old and only have 2GB each of DDR2 RAM.

before 21.0 i played HV, both melee and maging (well i'm not maging anymore now) without problems.
after 21.0 playing melee (the page refreshes constantly) firefox crashed 3 times in a 20 minutes timeframe.

i started playing with the task manager open on the side and i saw that while you play firefox's memory usage skyrockets. from 300MB to over 1100MB in about 10-15 rounds played.
right now i'm playing with the task manager open on the side and once the memory usage goes up to ~1000MB i stop playing for a minute in order to have it go back to reasonable levels (yup, it takes a bit to go down).

this happens with both the computers.
i don't know how the memory usage was before 21.0 because i did never check since it never crashed.

using HVStats makes the problem worse, but even turning it off the memory usage goes up anyway, it just takes more time to do so.

is it just me?
any hint about how i can solve this? i don't like using chrome much.

***

is it possible to downgrade FF to v20 without screwing things up?

I tried Chrome, and it's noticably faster, as well as having a lower mem usage. I guess this will be my main browser for HV, now. The only drawback is that the screen tends to flash at refresh, but I think this can be tweaked.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'm kinda pleased it's not a hardware issue on my end, but still a bit sad that FF doesn't work for EHV. Guess I'll just hang up the gloves for a bit and once the itch comes back just move over to chrome.

Good luck all

I'm using FF beta 22, doesn't seem to have this problem.

If you still want to use FF you can always just use that beta version

could the "flash" caused by hardware acceleration?

i have this weird problem with both chrome and iron, after a bunch of rounds, things get sluggish and riddle master fails to load. after losing a bunch of stamina, i found a workaround by closing the tab and opening a new one... riddle master then loads and speed goes back to normal speeds...

Version?
It's not really weird; it's typical behavior for a program that has memory leaks or other problems causing it to get more and more stuffed up over time. Since Chrome/Iron create a different process for each tab, opening a new tab is working like restarting the browser.

It won't have anything to do with the hard drive. You must have not have installed the exact same software or versions or configured them the same way. Do you still have the old hard drive or a backup of it so you can see what you did differently?
