I think it's a trade off. I invested in both elemental mage and holy/dark mage (never learned to play melee). With the elemental mage the cooldown is shorter (with enough abilities) but the spells hit less monsters than maximised holy/dark spells. Holy/dark is slower but hits more.

I am not sure if it is because of a gold star / white aura issue (my big loss for getting white aura first and then aiming for black rather than the other way around it seems) but my MP dropped from 2800+ fully loaded to 1956 with full Cloth and MP tanks slotted. That offensive spells now cost more MP has only added to the pain.

My base magic damage has been cut by ~20% and with the other changes to spells they overall do significantly less damage beyond that steep base reduction. I used to be able to 1 spell kill on heroic. Now it often takes both both tier 3 dark/holy spells plus a lower tiered spell to get anywhere on normal. If a monster happens to resist, then because of the cool down, I am essentially screwed.

As other players have commented, the lack of magic missile complicates mana regeneration.

There are many more issues, but this will do for now.

With cooldowns, mages are way slower than meleeing, while being much harder to play and with no redeeming qualities.

Sure, I have burst damage, but that damage is now massively nerfed. When someone with a 120 million credits holy set can't even take down 1 mob on IWBTH (Ragingheart) with Paradise Lost -> Disintegrate -> Banishment -> Corruption -> Smite, and then having to endure a cooldown of about 3 turns before I can kill again, how the fuck is that balanced? All of that costs about, oh I don't know, 400-500 MP? That's like 1/5th my mana bar.

So yeah I have a problem with cooldowns. If paradise lost can actually kill shit with 1 shot (with imperil is enough, but without imperil is better) then no problem. But when imperiled mobs with full APs spent on imperil upgrades + holy upgrades + staves upgrades + cloth upgrades can only scratch 30% HP off of Ragingheart on IWBTH imperiled with a fucking crit, then I don't know how else I'm supposed to play.

Do they? only the T3 dark/light spells hit a wide area. Mastery points are at a premium, especially with the right site unlocks scalling up in cost. Spell users having to invest to heavily in red masteries is... ouch.

Rather enjoying the new patch. Sure it can use tweaks and such, but it definitely beats the boredom of 'lightening->fire oh something live? ice' - actually find myself using the spells never had before. The monster lab changes are rather nice for when don't have time to check for gifts, and well...feeding them? Sure! Can we get them equipment too next? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Anyways, liking the direction this patch took. Then again, I'm an extremely casual player, eschewing ROB and rarely going deeper into arena, so probably not a very shared opinion *shrug*

I'll ask again, why did you change Energy Drinks? I don't think anyone was cheating and restoring 20 points up to 99 was fair. Please put it back to the way it was so that people can do things like Item World.

There's some merit to the "play on a lower difficulty level" advice.

I mage, and I was playing primarily on Nightmare pre-update. That's become a lot more difficult, so I decided to switch down to Normal, which is very doable. However, I'm getting roughly the same amount of XP per fight on Normal post-update as I was on Nightmare pre-update. So effecitvely it's just increased the difficulty ceiling by scaling all of the difficulties up a bit in therms of challenge and XP reward.

I guess it's different if you're farming for credits/drops, but certainly there's at least some counterbalance to the fact that I'm getting mugged on the moderate difficulty levels.

Does this mean your hath perk wasn't rounded UP to tier 2 -> 15% damage? (Which costs 4k)

Evidently it was worth it at the time. Now it's cheaper. Why, exactly, is that a problem?
