Isn't the point of melee to, I don't know... tank the mobs a bit more than squishybutts?

Since mage have to tank too......

But wait, can't we introduce a system to summon monsters to help tank / attack / cast / supply, it could provide more diverse and sophisticated styles. Expect it could bring interesting elements and lots of niches.

Since I'm not high level enough to survive IWBTH at all (except for 1-on-1 fights, thank you Iris strike), I have a very different set of concerns than you.

At low levels, all the styles that you 300+ players say are crap and don't work end up as dynamite. I'm doing 2-hand/light/mage on hard, and its cake. 2-hand/heavy/melee was boring, because until I got rending blow, there was literally nothing to do but hit hit hit spirit stance hit hit hit spirit stance hit hit hit. Difficulty didn't matter, and I'd die on nightmare to a single round. Mage was more fun, so I went with it until my survivability started getting questionable on normal - in exquisite gossamer. It really didn't hold up to repeated blows. Phase, of course, never dropped for me until about ten levels ago - I got Crude Phase Gauntlets.

In short, in low-level play, all the things that you lvl. 300+ players say can never work looks like dynamite, because we aren't doing IWTBH, so I can drop some mobs weak to fire with one bout of inferno, and then cleave through the rest by longsword until my overcharge fills and great cleave cools down. Cycling is optimal when you don't have T3, mixed styles work great when you don't have that many abilities to use, and pierced armor is crap until you play at a high enough difficulty that the mobs don't go down in three hits anyway. Bleeding wound doesn't matter, but stun looks like a pimp.

I have to say, it's always christmas when the ethereal weapons drop.

They already have better PMI (and sometimes evade) so it was kinda double dipping.

I honestly fail to see how that's a problem.

ADDENDUM: Now you've got me curious. I wonder what the median turns per round for melee vs. mage was in 0.75 and if they've been made more even in 0.76.

That, too. My gear blows pretty hard (due to shit drops and also because I refuse to pay people since I really only play seriously around patch time), so I take a ton of damage even with heavy, that extra STR health would be an incredible boon.

Also, minor nitpick: Shouldn't the tooltips for Culinarian and Gentleman be "Decrease Monster Hunger/Morale Drain", rather than "Improves"? Improves normally delineates an increase.

Since I'm hard-festing everything, does that denote me as a noob for my level? I plan to move onto Hell once I get a few more levels onto a weapon of mine, but right now Hard seems to be the setting that strikes the balance.

Or am I a noob and should be going at least Nintendo?

Mostly lotta ppl will agree that you need to go IWBTH to make an earn now... but well... thats your choice.

I play on hell and I am making moderate forward progress. Got lotd up to 14 and starting to get exq items, got my first mag drop. Credit gain is tolerable, exp gain is pretty good (1 lvl per 2-3 arenas).

I cant play on iwtbh, even if I wanted to spend the 4x+ time to do things I die.

To sum up the light issue:
The lvl300+ VIP/IRC crowd pestered Safari Pony enough to remove Wis/Int from light, because they felt it was trolling when they didn't get perfect LMAX PABs for their style of play.

Sounds like those kids who'd complain when they didn't get all 18's for their D&D characters...
