Not a chance. I think that video games are the artistic medium with the most potential by far. Sure I might get burned out by specific games or genres, but I can't imagine myself just stopping playing games entirely.

I see a lot of (valid) complaints about AAA games, but the solution to almost all of those is to just play indie games.

Just today, I played Dying Light 1 again. The difficult mode kept me dying and it took me almost an hour to hit a boss. Although playing too much made me feel nauseous and didn't want to touch it, I would unconsciously turn it on again after a while

QUOTE(Noctais @ Aug 5 2025, 16:48) *

To be honest, I am tired of video games, not because of the "I'm an adult" but because the business behind video games and what it has become just... *exhale*

I'm tired to see the last generic FPS or football game been sold millions with "hey buy our 40 euros/dollar Messi or i don't know who player ON TOP of the 70 bucks you allready put on" or "hey buy our latest console... well... BUY is a great word, just buy the rights to use as WE want you to use it and if we want it, we block you...

The last game I really enjoyed playing was BG3; now, I don't really play. Sometimes FF14 because I love the story and the gameplay... but that's it.

But I'm tired...

After more than 30 years of gaming, I'm tired of games... And to be honest, it's partially our fault.

This can be fixed by actually playing video games instead of... following video game "news" or participating in video game "discussions".

Like Ass Spanker said, what exactly is stopping you from playing games from before all these shady modern business practices? I play games almost every day, yet I'm still to buy a single battle pass, lootbox, card pack etc. or ever touch a P2W game. If I hear a game launches buggy or unfinished that's no problem, I'll wait a few years for the patched out complete edition. It'll be cheap too. Or just skip it entirely and play something else. A publisher pulls some bullshit? I don't care, because I don't even hear about it. Playing games means starting up Steam or your Playstation and clicking "Play" on something you DO want to play, not pulling up Reddit or Twitter or /v/ to read the latest gaming industry drama about how it's all going to shit.

There is literally nothing forcing people to engage with these shitty modern business practices aside from some weird FOMO to "do the thing other people are doing this week". You could play older games or indies free from the that influence 24/7 for the rest of your life and still not exhaust the library of good games that already exist, even ignoring those released in the future.

I think that as you get older you get less free time. I've come to appreciate smaller games more rather than big, sweeping AAA titles. Roguelites that I can do a couple runs in after work or something simple like that. But it's still definitely my hobby.

I think that, like some other people have pointed out, burnout's more of a general exhaustion thing than a targeted kind of malaise.

No, I don't see myself growing out of playing video games entirely, but as I get older I see myself growing more picky of what games I actively seek to play, time becomes an issue and I gotta choose carefully what I should spend my time with.

I don't play video games anymore. I haven't played any games in nearly 5 years btw. There are better things to do than play them. You can read books instead.
