Never.
There will always be a game out there that will catch my eye and reel me back in.

I don't think I stop playing video games, but recently I've slowed down the amount I buy and try to focus on playing and beating the ones I already own.

I can't even imagine myself not playing video games. I need my escapism to.

While I've definitely toned down vidya in recent years, I can never see myself cutting it off completely.

Never completely. As long as a game comes out that piques my interest

I love games. They've always been somewhere between a hobby and an art form for me, and there are stories that can only be told through the medium. Literature tells one kind of story, film another. I do think that well-designed games do something that really capitalise on the medium, which is certainly a valuable pursuit.

I mean, I'm not going to suddenly stop reading books or watching movies, so I imagine the likelihood of ceasing to play games entirely is really rather slim.

While I don't play single player games a whole lot anymore I don't think I'll ever grow out of fighting games

I guess at some point I'll not be able to play as often as I'd like but I think I'll still be able to play at least one game every few months.

I'm with the OP kinda. I get burned out sometimes. I'm tired of the SoS. Games just don't have any imagination left it seems. Tried and true series are becoming so repetitive it's nuts. Anymore, it seems like they are just upgrading graphics and forgetting that the core of a video game is GAMEPLAY. I can watch movies for pretty graphics and good stories. It's the gameplay that keeps me playing.

The only game that I've truly stuck with has been League for the past two and a half years. Part of it is because the time investment has actually made it more enjoyable; I have all but one champion (fuck volibear) and because I enjoy the combination of strategic thought and mechanical prowess required to play League at a high level. Even then, sometimes I do experience hardcore burnout, but I always come back. Other games have followed the same pattern; I play them a ton, and then experience burnout, and then I come back to them and enjoy them again.

Personally, I'm going to be tracking and playing the scene for a long time.

Currently addicted to Civ V, not quitting anytime soon.
Even if PC games nowadays are ported console garbage, there's always something fun that comes out once in a while.

I've been growing quite tired of games recently... Prolly just cause of age and other life options. But I also get more and more pissed at the cash grab shit of the companies... 5 bucks for a difficulty setting? 5 bucks for a different skin? I'd pay that if it was a nude skin.

Also, gamers just seem to be unbelievably mean and crappy community. I go to any other forum, even like this one here, and the discussions and interactions seem so much more mature and reasonable. It's a pretty insane culture that's solidifying around games.

Same here. I only play today by some sort of familiarity, but I gave entirely up the whole industry thing and even cheap-ass indie projects even if I see more gaming potential in these than Electronic-Arts-Activision-Future-Warfare-Fantasy-Football-Alien-War-in-Space-Zombie-Drama-Hype-Elitism-Bullshit.

And I fully agree with you about "Geek" communities. They look so sweetened and fermented like good looking sweet in plastic bags, you can't tallk about anything serious with them most of the time because they are so influenced by everything that went into their small consumer brains. I mean are we supposed to move towards Consciousness or ultra-consumerism and enslavement ? I may be too dramatic but I went in this mentality and I'll never get back to it. It's just so illusory and reducing. Part of my rejection to videogames is also my point of view of duality. I mean, it's always stupid WAR games. It looks so stupid and grotesque sometimes it makes me want to puke. The Xbox One and PS4 advertising used Killzone and Titanfall to show how big their cocks are. It looks it just became a thing for easy-living douchebags who need to hang on to something to get a sense of what does it feels to have some sort of living spirit through endless entertainment. And I know it wasn't different in the 80's when it comes to war games... but when will this get old, I just wonder.

The only editors I follow acually are Nintendo and Ubisoft because they are the only big editors that made and still make "sane" and creative gaming to me. Otherwise a big part of me abandoned the whole thing. Yesterday, games were made sparingly because the industry was just nascent, but today it's just chaotic and dramatic like Hollywood. You chose your games like picking movies on demand and... it just became too massive, I guess, regardless of the good developppers will.

And I myself was in love of videogames some years ago and I was wondering "how could I live without videogames ?" Well, today it got me tired and I just tell myself that the whole thing just stands on microchips and pixels. That's it.

I think that even if I get bored with the genres I liked up to now I'll just find some I haven't liked and will come to like it.
It may have started already. I liked FPS games practically all my life and didn't like strategies, but recently it switched for me.

So, answer is that even if I'll tire or grow out of playing some games, I'll probably find some that will appeal to me.

Also, if you grow tired with all the main stream developers and games, along with their DLC's and things, you may perhaps find some of indie games refreshing. Finding one that may appeal to you may be not as easy though.
