QUOTE(mrttao @ Mar 12 2013, 13:34) An alternative way would be for it just be a floor, that way it has no effect on any item except those so crappy that they fall below that floor, such merch trash would be raised to the new floor and be slightly more valuable merch trash, but still too trashy to ever be worth the investment. If this is how it works then it is a huge trap. If it simply guaranteed a minimum value, it would still increase "average" quality, but it would not increase the chance of getting a keeper. So to be specific: the system does indeed work in a way that increases the odds of getting high quality equipment, because it increases the lower bound of the stat rolls, it doesn't simply guarantee a roll above a certain value. It was changed some time back, but the way the system currently determines a stat is to roll a value between x and 200, then put that through an exponential function that results in a value q between 0 and 1. This is multiplied by the stat variance and finally added to the base minimum stat, giving a final stat somewhere between the minimum and maximum allowed stat, before it goes on to the other parts of the equipment generator. The various quality modifiers are all combined into one value between 0 and 0.75, which is multiplied by 200 to give the lower bound of that initial roll, which is x above. So if you have a maxed combined quality bonus of 0.75, it will roll a value between 150 and 200. (And the base quality score, for all intents and purposes, is the weighted average for q.)

Oh okay, that's cool. It eliminates the lower bound rolls so there's less possibilities therefore increasing your odds of a good roll. I feel more confident sinking a million+ credits into the next level now (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

T_Starrk: that's odd, since it makes me less confident to know the formula is exponential.

If you could get exq or mag gear in two or three days it wouldn't be valuable.

There's also the option of new mechanic, "rust", that decreases the value of your gears as you use them. By raising demand this would make exq plate as valuable when it drops more often.

QUOTE(Kelenius @ Mar 3 2013, 11:10) Huh. So, say, if you are at level 50, you upgrade some item (you get no exp because you're at max level), and then salvage it. And as a result, you lose forge exp?
QUOTE(sigo8 @ Mar 3 2013, 11:13) Nope, you still get exp at max level.
It does.
It's true, I salvaged some old phase gear to get back a bunch of phazons and I didn't drop from level 50. Though, it is one of those pieces I upgraded before Forge EXP was even added, so maybe Ichy is on to something. IDK. Don't care enough to actually test it. Once again it paid off to max a feature as quickly as possible. Getting to 50 now looks like a pain in the ass since you can't just upgrade and salvage junk. You'd effectively need a lot more bindings without Salvage. Getting 90% phazons, HG, and bindings back from abandoned equipment is definitely nice. I've been saving old equips for a long time just in case something like this happened. Too bad someone's account had to be stolen first. It reminds me of this low-traffic railroad crossing in the town I grew up in. It took someone being splattered before the crossing signals were finally put up. Unfortunate.

No, it really overflows i salvaged a shade breastplate that i used to increase forge exp and got back 40k exp worth of materials, lost 18k real xp and got back to lvl 48.

Well that looks fun, still doesn't tell us about all your maths. What kind of function goes into determining the quality modifier that determines the value between 0-0.75, is it a straight value determined by +loot quality bonus that then goes through another exponential equation that then spits out the quality modifier? https://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?showt...p;#entry1639766When was it changed, and changed from what? Are you planning on changing it again any time soon? Especially while we are trying to figure it out? Do we get a prize if we figure it out? Is that prize you changing it again? How likely is that 0.75 quality modifier? Like what would it take to get that? Is PI involved? I would prefer a cookie, but that isn't a math symbol, yet... If I understand well: The better your LotD and quality modifiers of the place where you fight, the better the stats of whatever you receive. In case of LotD, it improves the stats of the equipment you get (it gets them nearer the maximum possible and further from the minimum stat), but it does not have effect on the "quality of the item" you receive (I mean crude, fair, etc.). So for example, crude equipment for someone with a high LotD will have, on average, better stats than someone with a low training in LotD. (That explains for me also why some times I see shitty superiors and really good fine equipment out there for example) The training in the game has a misguiding explanation then! (Correct me, if my interpretation is far from the truth please) (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) This post has been edited by Ebisan: Mar 12 2013, 21:49

I am somehow unsurprised it's exponential. Tenboro loves his exponentials. And double exponentials. How long until we see an advancement mechanic keyed to the [ en.wikipedia.org] Ackermann Function? And exponentials with variable base. Just to make linear regression a pain in the ass.
