Virwox and others may be implementing policy restrictions for what you use bitcoins for. This is why people like me suggest buying bitcoins at a given exchange, sending them to a bitcoin wallet you control yourself, then sending the bitcoins over to here.

There is literally no way they could know that the wallet address in question is here, unless you outright tell them.

I've heard of bitcoin, but your article makes me a little bit of a new discovery.

Why does it have to be BitCoin? Everytime I start setting everything up for that stuff they either want a mobile phone number (I don't have a mobile, I'm not planning on getting one soon, and especially not just for BItCoins),
or the whole registration gets so ridiculously complicated that I just loose all interest.

There will always be worse complications due to the nature of the content and users with credit cards and paypal transactions.

I still think paypal is faster. I gave a friend 50 bucks and all it took was seconds. Every one else has patreon or site donations, even amazon probably has a gift feature that aren't bitcoin but this does. There's also uncertainty that banks might frown upon bitcoin and close your accounts or something.

Paypal is a lot slower when they freeze your account indefinately. If you think banks might frown upon the use of a semi-annoymous currency, imagine if you use a paypal linked to your bank account.

Paypal's policy is that they won't allow its use for porn (or pretty much anything at their discretion) and to prove that you aren't a porn site they can demand full backend access to the servers and hold your account hostage.

PayPal finds out about your attempt to donate to EH - considered fraudulent (porn is bad, mmkay) by PP standards - then freezes all your funds and charges a substantial amount on top of it to screw you a hefty amount of times over.
And all it took was a $50 donation.

Check their Acceptable Use Policy.
tl;dr: Breaks 1, 2, 3 and 4 with the right lawyerpower, and at least 2 with any lawyerpower.

(Still don't know how 'xiv is getting away with this. Guess they don't care if PayPal accounts get frozen because that won't affect them if some random guy from Bumblefuck, Non-Japan gets their entire e-cash formatted, even once the premium membership expires.)

Has anyone tried SNAPCARD? I recently discovered them via an interesting Bing Rewards offer. (Sweepstakes of $500 in BTC, but I digress). Their buys claim to be instant, and that being said, I'm not sure why people are complaining over Bitcoins. The currency gets deposited and you send if off; I'm not seeing problems there.

I'd give it a try if I haven't lost my time and donkey patience on that shitty virwox.

I can almost guarantee it's easier and faster than virwox. I can also make that guarantee with Circle.

I'll give this Snapcard a try. They look rather promising. It's been a while since my last donation anyways.

EDIT: Well, this site is incredibly new. So new that they don't even have a way set up yet for you to donate via bank accounts, which is very odd. Also, they have a similar questionaire you need to fill out for verification purposes similar to what Coinbase had in order in enable the instant-buy. Here's the weird part: the questions I had were pretty much all answered with None of the Above. I completed the questions and I was supposedly verified, but yet I still did not get to the next rank in security, and the questions were available for me to take again, yet they are still filled out and simply going through the motions gets me the same confirmation page I already had. There was a separate button to click on for wire transfers, but that was merely to show interest, and it did ask me why I was interested in Bitcoin. Rest assured I answered honestly yet vaguely: I am using Bitcoin to donate money. For all they know, I could be sending BTC to Vuze. They also have support for LTC and Doge Coin (much wow!), which right now doesn't mean jack diddly as there's no way to add funds that I saw. Nevertheless, time will eventually get their site stacked with more features...like, you know, actually able to buy BTC. I'll keep an eye on my inboxes and see if they send me anything. I'm still wondering as to how Bing Rewards was going to give away $500 in BTC to someone on this site given there's no way to actually buy anything...

EDIT 2: "We're still in beta with this product and it works in just a few states." Ah. Now things make a bit more sense.

For most purposes yes. The only difference is that once you send bitcoins to that address you cannot send them anywhere further (this is because you do not hold the private key for that address)

Some more information on SNAPCARD:
-They are planning on having bank account transfers go live starting this Monday, the 17th.
-These transfers are not fee-less, but they charge a 0.5% fee, which is pretty reasonable and will likely get made up for when the BTC is converted back to USD here.
-These transfers are not immediately instant. It can take 3-5 business days, but having six days of good history gets you to Rank 3 in security, which can speed it up to anywhere from instant to one day.
-They allow you to instantly wire money from you bank account, but this is $15 a wire...
-Bank accounts are also instantly verified, so no waiting for micro-deposits.

Update: Okay, so their policy for bank transfers is likely to turn off some people. You go to add a bank account, and instead of asking for account and routing numbers, they have a list of banks you chose from and then login to them from their site. I'm guessing this is why there's no need for microdeposits: they must have some way to access the bank's records and immediately verify your account. However, if your bank is not on that list (like mine isn't), well, tough shit unfortunately. I'll have to email these guys and ask if this list will ever be updated or if a user can request another bank to be added.
