QUOTE(Tenboro @ Sep 29 2014, 22:18) Just a quick heads-up, [ www.circle.com] Circle has [ www.circle.com] just left beta and is now open to registrations for everyone. It seems to be the easiest way yet to buy BTC with a credit card. QUOTE(xboxboy939495 @ Oct 3 2014, 04:42) These guys look good...better than Coinbase.
ooh they do look good. I'll have to try it out..... coinbase is cheaper than virwox, but their site is buggy, which prevented me from using it completely. So I stuck with virwox, but they're BS expensive.

When you say Coinbase is buggy, what do you mean? I just tried using them and they cancelled my transaction (after several days of madness) because it was "high risk". Though that gave me the opportunity to try Circle instead... I have to wait "a few business days" to verify my account via deposit. This is apparently mandatory prior to adding a credit/debit card.

I too am interested in what you mean. I know the only issues I had when donating through Coinbase was when this site still had a MtGox platform to donate through, but I'm chalking that up to the different exchange rates. Moot point now, but I haven't really had any other problems...there was one time when the blockchain crapped out, but that caused problems everywhere. The deposits for verification are going to be mandatory for any of these. Bank accounts especially. I do find it odd that they canceled your transaction...like I said, I've only had a few issues with them in the past.

I was thinking it would be different since someone else approximated a five minute setup when he tried Circle. Ah, well. I got another email from Coinbase this afternoon congratulating me on verifying my account... I suspect the rejection had something to do with them not verifying the account on their end before attempting to process the payment. I really don't feel like calling them to see what's their problem. I will just wait until I build up a reservoir of patience before trying again with Circle. Coinbase and I are done. I don't take kindly to anyone who plays with my money.

The account setup took only five minutes, but bank verification can take a while. Speaking of taking time, I wonder how long it takes to get the Bitcoins once you purchase them from Circle?

Supposedly you can buy bitcoins instantaneously from Coinbase, but you need to verify your bank account AND credit card. I verified my bank account, but they would not verify my credit card after many many tries on my end (by charging and refunding small amounts, which the values I reported on their verification page). Either their site or verification codes were buggy. It wasn't worth the hassle for me to do continue using their service. Time is money. My thoughts exactly. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) If I get around to trying out Circle, I'll post my experience here. This post has been edited by treesloth: Oct 4 2014, 04:59

In addition to those, you also need to do an identity verification via a brief questionaire. I'm not sure why the credit card verification didn't work. I know I had trouble with a Target Visa card since they didn't post pending charges (which was the nature of the verification charges). However, I tried another Visa card I had but rarely used, and I got an email within a couple of hours telling of the amounts. I got the questionaire completed right around the same time, so I had instant buy ever since. This post has been edited by xboxboy939495: Oct 4 2014, 23:18

So, I've tried Circle. I had a few frustrations, but they have a competent and friendly customer service team. This has greatly improved my overall experience with them. I would do business with them again. Initially I tried using a card, but the transaction was denied. I then tried using my bank account (which I was finally able to verify). This transaction became pending rather than instant (apparently some people actually do get instant transactions up front. I was not one of them.) Since I had already called customer service, I knew that I had to send my ID and my life story to them at this point for verification purposes. (Actually, it was my ID and a bill.) They verified my account within a couple of hours and I am now waiting for the transaction from my Circle wallet to my E-Hentai wallet to clear. Here are the main things of note: - Circle may require just as much verification documentation as CoinBase.
- Bank transactions do not have fees. Credit/debit card transactions are a bit more of a hassle up front though.
- Circle's customer care team is awesome.
That's that. Edit: So I tried doing business with them again. This time my recent transaction was cancelled in like manner as my first transaction. The only notable difference is that this was a bank transaction rather than a card transaction. Thus, I believe Circle is still really buggy at this stage. These guys will be a current replacement for Coinbase. Got my bank account verified and the BTC buy was instant AND with no fees. I'll be using these guys for the time being.
EDIT: Oh, now this is funny...and potentially setting me up for fraud, but whatevs, not my fault...anywho, get this. I get my bank account verified last night. I was able to buy BTC instantly right off the bat. I did to take this site out for a test drive, and then I immediately sent them off to my wallet here. I was waiting too long for the payment to confirm, and I was tired, so I went to sleep, risking a potential drop in value of BTC overnight. When I woke up, I applied the donation, end of story.
Now, here comes the funny part: Circle emailed me around the same time about how my bank account suddenly couldn't be verified and I had to reconnect it. Mind you, this was all after I had bought and sent off the Bitcoins. I still don't have ten dollars taken out of my bank account as of yet. I sent Circle support a message detailing what I can in the ridiculous 500 character limit. This way, I don't look like a thief. In short, I ain't even mad.
EDIT 2: Okay, now I just got an email saying they could not complete the deposit of $10, so now my account is overdrafted (possessing a negative balance). I'll probably call someone to get this squared away. I'm thinking a simple deposit should fix it, then my bank account will have the debit and the Circle account will be a net zero.

Alright, so I was able to reverrify my bank account, and being the good citizen I am, I went and "rebought" the $10 of BTC that never came out from my account. The funds don't appear to be instant this time...guess Circle learned their lesson. Anyways, now we wait...I have a feeling I'll be using Coinbase for the time being still though. If I have to pay a fee of 1% plus about 15¢ for a transaction that actually works, so be it.

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but would donating via Patreon be possible?

The admin doesn't make monthly content and thus would have a hard time justifying that. The payment processors for Patreon are Stripe and PayPal. We already know about the second of those two...

It wasn't until today that my Circle account finally completed the deposit. Now I have a net zero. My only question is if this is going to be a regular thing. I posed this question to the support rep I had emailed with, and she seemed confident that it was only when a negative balance was corrected. Oddly enough, I had the ten dollars come out a few days prior, but my Circle account didn't reflect that until today. Go figure.

I guess they are still in beta, to some extent. My experience with Circle was literally: make an account, verify via SMS, add a credit card, buy some coins.

They are still in Beta, Tenb. I checked with the rest of the Bitcoin community on IRC and the people who've actually used it a bit more, and they've had a lot of bugs with the site - things not being processed correctly, mischarges, and other issues with the site functionality. I'd be very careful using their site, though, for a while, but I'm paranoid about security, so you can disregard my warning if you really want to just use their services. My warning stems from a cipherscan which indicates that they use weak TLS and some pretty weak SSL protocols/ciphers. (For the techies out there who care about why i'm warning about this, take a peek at the output from cipherscan on this, [ gist.github.com] at this gist containing the output from the scan program.)
