Very important question, here. At the donations page, we can apparently enter decimal values into the donations box. Is there any validation going on behind the scenes to enforce INT values, or will the system handle decimal values for USD bitcoin donations? (BTW, super glad the donations system has been changed to what it is, it's a lot easier to jsut send BTC over and then say exactly what I want it to go towards, whether server slots or donations. Great addition, Tenb!)

They are cast to ints, no decimal donations.

That answers that question. The page still looks like you can enter decimals and it'll do the fractional BTC calculation, I wasn't sure how it actually handled the numbers though.

My guess is it (possibly unexpectedly) helps you calculate how close you are to your next intcast dollar donation. Or that it is just easier to code it that way.

I guess Tenboro has to make sure there are slots for you to adopt and that cannot be checked automatically.

Patiently "mining" in the nothingness here, though with my luck the BTC system will collapse before I even get the chance to donate $20. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
With my current specs it'll take a year to hit $20. Possibly more. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I should just charge people for translations and make them send money to the wallet, since that's the only online wallet I use. Tenboro gets rich, I'm not earning anything, and users are contributing to keep EH alive by 0.0001%.

Wait, I guess it just doesn't work that way... Users will still assume they paid you, not the site.

If you'll get $20 in a year you're probably paying much more in electricity from it. I just use localcoins when i need some quick coin i can have it in under 1 hr. I usually use the deposit to local bank.

Thanks for the tips, viperit. With the amount of the electricity involved, that shouldn't be too much of an issue and I'd certainly use that kind of deposit method if the option was available here. Checked the sites provided on the official HP, no such luck or it's restricted.

I'll still keep an eye on my power bills just in case. If it turns out I paid $1,000 in power for the $20 donation, clearly doing it wrong.

There are no longer any limits on the number of Adopt-A-Server slots available to users; if you wanted to get 1000 1-month slots right now, you probably could. As such, there's no need to message Tenboro to get large quantities of them...

I've been up for hours, trying to read this entire thread. I only made it to Page 13. At that point, BTC was only about $160, which was way higher than what it was at the beginning (LMAO).

Currently I can get a Bitcoin for around $479ish. The donation page uses the highest weighed average, which is currently around $530ish. That's a difference of approximately $50. This is not including the 10% fee for donating. I just want to know:

1) Is there a major U.S. exchange that allows for purchases of less than one full Bitcoin? (I'm asking those who have had actual experience purchasing Bitcoins.)

2) Since I apparently have to factor in over $50 in exchange rate and fees, do I have to include this in my deposit? If so, how can I figure out how much my actual donation will be after it's all done?

I'm hoping I'm misunderstanding something here.

Edit: Oh, the conversion back into USD is a sell rather than a buy. So this means that it is actually a $50+ gain rather than loss, right? That helps.

Never been to the US, but I guess that the easiest way for the east coast residents is to get a bus ticket to Toronto and use a bitcoin ATM there (are those still functioning in Toronto? haven't been there for ages).

I don't think there is any regular exchange anywhere that restricts trading amounts to above 1 BTC. It should be noted that that bitcoins are subdivisible to eight decimal places (i.e. 0.00000001 BTC), so handling partial bitcoins is perfectly normal.

Yes. The 10% bonus is there to prevent donators from losing money due to fees or exchange rate fluctuations.

Just a quick heads-up, [www.circle.com] Circle has [www.circle.com] just left beta and is now open to registrations for everyone. It seems to be the easiest way yet to buy BTC with a credit card.

It took me about five minutes to set up and verify my account and buy a few bucks worth of BTC with a Visa card. Which is several days faster than the next best one I've seen. Some locations may not be supported yet, but at least if you're in US or Europe, this seems like the new winner for usability and speed.

Sup guys, just have some questions before making donation

Q1
Is the 10% bonus already included in the value of BTC shown next to the Apply Donation button?
(IMG:[i.imgur.com] http://i.imgur.com/zImzseL.png)

Q2
How often does the "1 BTC = xxx USD" change? Does it change every hour or every day?
(IMG:[i.imgur.com] http://i.imgur.com/D2wXGCl.png)

Thanks (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Q1: Yes.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Feb 24 2013, 14:27) *

We automatically update our exchange rate based on the [bitcoincharts.com] Bitcoin Charts 24-hour and 7-day weighted average, whichever is highest. These average up trades across most of the major exchanges. We also add a 10% bonus to cover exchange fees and currency fluctuations.

If you finish your transaction within a day, the effect should be minimal.

These guys look good...better than Coinbase. So you can instantly buy BTC with a credit card, eh? Haven't gotten around to fully setting up my payment options yet, but are there fees for credit cards? They seem to boast absolutely no fees for bank accounts. Not to say Coinbase's fees were steep (hell, a fee of 1% plus about 20¢ is way below the bar) but every little bit helps, right?

This is what I dug up about the credit card fees:
QUOTE( Circle)
Warning on Credit Card Fees
Certain issuing banks for Visa and MasterCard charge cash advance fees for bitcoin purchases made with a credit card.

Further, for credit cards issued outside the US, the issuing bank may charge international transaction fees for USD transactions with Circle.

If you wish to ask your credit card issuer how it will process transactions with Circle, and whether either one of these additional fees will affect you, then you may need to know our Merchant Category Code (MCC): 6051.

If you purchase bitcoin with a linked bank account instead of with a card, then you will not be charged fees of any kind.

If you encounter any difficulties linking an account to Circle, please contact us at support@circle.com.
