Don't even try to use Gox if you live in the US. It's not going to work.

Now that I think about it, it kinda makes sense that two different hemispheres are going to have different exchange rates on an already-fluid currency. Hence why I could never donate from Coinbase to MtGox (save for a $1 donation...which was probably luck or negligible differences) due to the different exchange rates. MtGox required both numbers in USD and BTC to match, and that wasn't going to happen coming from Coinbase.

Yeah, pretty much. It currently fluctuates around 800. It's higher on MtGox, but that's because Gox dollars are kind of worthless because there are issues with withdrawal, at least in the US.

Mind you, you can buy partial BTC, so it's not like you have to spend 800USD all at once.

For any site you're buying BTC through: if they don't have a field to type in the amount of USD, then just take the amount of BTC you want to buy and divide it by the site's current exchange rate.

I've noticed that the update to the donations page has a wallet address listed, along with a QR code...is this supposed to be a wallet on the site here, or is it a wallet we donate to for wallet-to-wallet?

And now I don't have to wait 3+ plus days for Tenboro to respond (no hate man...totally understand...there's one of you and a lot of us...but it doesn't make it suck any less...)

I have a question about Coinbase.

Can I buy a fraction of a bitcoin in order to make a $20 donation here?

I imagine that my wallet on Coinbase would be different than my wallet here, correct? And if that's true I'd be able to send that bitcoin fraction to my E-Hentai wallet is that also correct?

My apologies if there's any confusing wording I've said so many times that I'm not very good with technology.

Correct as well. After your bitcoin fraction is "credited" into your wallet you can login into coinbase and send it to the wallet at E-Henati.

Thank you for the confirmation Blue Penguin. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It does sound simple enough and with Tenboro's recent upgrade seems to be much smoother both on his receiving donations and us making donations since we no longer have to PM and wait to be credited.

Being able to buy BTC instantly now, I decided to try out the new address system on here...and I got a question for anyone that has bought bitcoins within the past few hours...did the transactions go through? My purchase still says "pending" and usually it only takes a couple of hours (I set it up last night and went to bed, so more than that has passed). I remember one time there was an issue with Coinbase connecting to the "blockchain" (I think that was the terminology) and any and all transactions got returned once they fixed the problem. Eh, just thought I'd ask.

UPDATE: Finally confirmed...not sure if it was the fact that it was a new address or if there was something screwy going on with Coinbase's end (probably the latter). It's instant (well, for getting credited at least) and even with this hiccup, it was still faster than waiting for Tenboro to get to my message and credit the donation.

Mt.Gox suspended withdrawals because of wizards "transaction malleability", the owners of SilkRoad 2 closed the whole shebang down and ran away with the money (some ~3 millions in bitcoins).

So any more questions why we so suddenly moved away from Gox as the price index? (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Incidentally, Bitstamp reopened BTC withdrawals, so everything back to normal there.

No ones trusting anyone at this stage. They are calling btc-e the Russian mafia, MTGOX is plotting a conspiracy to crash the market to buy back lost coins, and the SK2 ran away with the goldern goose.

Other exchanges seem to be coping by vetting high risk/new users more closely. MTGox is speculator pit, everyone is laughing at each other, people buying in low believing a recovery and people bulk selling laughing at buyers.
