Anyway, I purchased my coin through coinbase, which made the process easy through bank account (though I understand if it makes people slightly uncomfortable).

That's gonna have to be a regular thing sadly. Bank accounts are pretty much the only secure thing. Credit cards have a tendency for fraud.

QUOTE

so the next step would be what? Sending the coin directly from coinbase to EH, since there's a send money option on it. Or do I have to use multibit?

You could try donating to MtGox form Coinbase, but I was only successful once, and that was with a $1 donation. You would put the address from Coinbase to MtGox's platform and then take the address from MtGox to Coinbase (kinda like how a letter has two addresses: one where it's going to and one where it's from).
Like I said though, I haven't been too successful with that. What I do is just transfer it to a wallet (I'm thinking that's what Multibit is, yes?) and then just make a wallet-to-wallet with Tenboro. You probably run into less fees that way actually...

This is fun! Like slapping nails with your bare hands!

Can I use [www.virwox.com] https://www.virwox.com/ to buy SLL (i have no idea what that is) with paypal and then transfer it into bitcoins at the same address and then something maybe is or isn't?

Thanks! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Has someone else used this method? I like Coinbase, but if I can use PayPal, that's better (without jumping through several hoops that is). I'd like to know the general process before I try anything myself...

Some good news about Coinbase! They added in a feature where you can instantly get Bitcoins...but at a cost: just like MtGox, they need a verified identity. Fortunately, I didn't see a photo ID field...but this is where it gets kinda weird...I entered in my personal info (name, address, DOB, last 4 #s of SSN) and the site said I was unable to be verified for whatever reason (gave some crap about insufficient questions?) so I don't know if it will actually work...but if it does, it'll be instant AND inexpensive!

Okay, so I think "Insufficient data" meant something along the lines of this: we need to gather more geographical data in order to test and see if you actually live in your said area and are who you say you are.
Basically, I was able to get to the next step for verify: it's a questionaire. They ask you a couple of questions (i.e. I got a question on what street and hospital was closest to my area) on your location. Oddly enough, I got another question on people (wtf?) where four names were listed and I was asked if I knew any of them. I didn't recognize any of them names, so I could possibly be failing the questionaire by this question. Anyways, I guess I'll have to wait until they have a better system for verify or fix their stuff...

I used [www.spendbitcoins.com] https://www.spendbitcoins.com/ which works if you are in Australia. They have a pretty good reputation and you can get bitcoins anonymously but they do charge a 10% broker fee.

Seriously tho, couldn't something like [www.paypal.com] THIS be used.

Those of us who don't want to deal with the frustration which is "bitcoins" could simply PM Tenboro providing our "email address" and specify the "amount" we want to donate.

Tenboro could then gather those email addresses into a list, going down the list and using the paypal method ^above to request payment from each donor for "amount x" specified in the PM.

Each donor then receives the email from Tenboro requesting "amount x", which was specified by them. A few clicks later and BAM!!! The money has been donated effortlessly.

Only drawback of this is Tenboro will have to manually enter the email address, but if couldn't take too long copy and pasting. Besides, i'm sure there would be much more people willing to donate if this plan is executed.

Instead of just saying "read the forum before posting", do you think you could just say what the problem with this is?

The short story is that its against Paypal's TOS creating hassle and mess such as frozen accounts and funds. Its a combination of Paypal being quite enthusiastic about enforcing their TOS with a range of measures and people being idiots when making donations in the past.

For example more recently; sites with user generated content or content uploaded by users may now be required by paypal to give them access for monitoring their backend to ensure that content uploaded complies with their TOS.

Thanks. that makes much more sense.

However. after messing around in Paypay a bit, I found [www.paypal.com] THIS.

There if you read near the top left corner, it's reads "personal". Also, it says it's to send money to a "friend".

Since this is "personal", and has nothing to do with a site or it's content necessarily. Could this not be used to send payments directly to Tenboros email in a "personal" manner? Or would paypal have a problem with that too?

Manuals can be very useful when you can't figure out how to do something. EULAs are never useful for the reader.

Actually, i had read them. Not sure how it discredits what I was attempting to do tho. Watch the demo video from post 372.

But putting that aside, there is a way to essentially "donate using Paypal", for anyone who needs to.
It is an incredibly easy process witch involves registering for an account at [www.virwox.com] Virwox.

Rather than me explaining every step, here is a "[www.scribd.com] Guide".

For step 1, when it asks you to visit that "tinyurl" site, just go to VirWox instead. Here's another guide with a youtube video pretty much saying the same thing: [bitcoinwithpaypal.com] http://bitcoinwithpaypal.com
Once you've got your bitcoins, your going to need to transfer them from Virwox to a wallet. You can get a good one "[multibit.org] here".
This entire process shouldn't take you anymore than like 5 minutes.

Keep in mind that after you've withdrawed your bitcoins for the first time, it will take awhile to process (took about 30 hours for me). Another thing to note is the transaction fees of Virwox. There actually quite expensive. I started out depositing 30 bucks to Virwox just to test it. I ended up with only about 26 bucks after being hit with all those transaction fees (yep took a whole 4 dollars from me with fees). Also, there is a limit to how much you can deposit/withdraw as a new customer. Apparently, Virwox is afraid of people chargebacking them, so their trying to avoid it by not having instant withdraws, high transaction fees (to cover possible chargeback), and deposit/withdraw limits for new customers. Once you've been a customer for awhile and are trusted, the withdraws are faster, and the limits begin to disappear.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Feb 24 2013, 08:27) *

Note that no official exchanges are going to sell you Bitcoins with stuff like credit cards or PayPal, as those could be reversed, while Bitcoins cannot be.

In any case, ^^This post should be edited or something. And please, for those of you that are doing this, stop saying that bitcoins are the only way to pay. It is misleading, and probably driving away potential donors who are looking to pay with something like Paypal. While technically it is true you can only donate with bitcoins, by following the method I posted above^^, you are indirectly donating using Paypal. So yeah, anyone who wants to donate with Paypal, you pretty much can. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'd keep an eye on Virwox and people's experiences/feedback, there are a few flags that I noticed with that site. Its relatively new, you sometimes have to go through a few currencies to get to bitcoins, the site disagrees with higher browser security settings, the guide to use the site was spammed verbatim across thousands of websites and the site's owner is in a different country to where the servers are and to where the domain is registered.

It might be perfectly legitimate but I'd take care.

Yeah I had my suspensions too. Thats why I only sent 30 bucks to test it out. At any rate, regarding feedback, mine is that the site seems to be legitimate. It worked out fine, and the proof is my donation star obviously.

I checked some of the comments from the youtube video before i tried it, and If you read the comments on the video, no one seems to be complaining or had much of a problem either. So yeah. Based on all this it should be okay. I still wouldn't deposit too much money at one time though. My limit is going to be $25-$30 always. And everything is done through Paypal, so it's not like your giving out your credit card info or bank. (btw there is a reason you go through multiple currencies like Linden SSL. I can't remember exactly, but somehow it's to get by paypal's TOS.)

In any case, my experience/feedback has given me no reason to distrust them as of yet. I'll let you know if something happens that would change that though.
