Ten, I also respect you sir and admire you're good work here on the site. I'll also not be gaining any stars via donations it's all simply WAY too technical for me and I have the technical expertise of uh a rock, haha! Unless direct payment via PayPal or Credit Card is returned I won't be that is and it doesn't sound that it's going to happen anytime soon due to the nature of the site as you said Ten it's a porn site that isn't a porn site that is one that generates it's own original content and it's also not a true MMORPG like say World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2 so it's doubtful we'll see cards at department stores that count as donations like time and gems for WoW and GW2 respectfully. I of course will be hopeful that some viable simple way to donate will be made available at some point in the meantime to the rest of you good luck on mining your blocks and if you were successful in navigating the internetological minefield to get your stars very well done. It's not like this is unprecedented, a couple of years ago it traded at $30 before dropping below $1. But people forget too fast. So if everyone could just go back to using it as a medium of exchange instead of one of the sillier investment objects invented yet, that would be great.

LOL yeah, bitcoin somehow turned into another stock market when the exchange rate started going up. It was only matter of time before it crashed. Speculators gonna speculate.

Investments & bullshit, I'll wait the day that Tenbrony Do accepts donations from plain transactions and bukkake him with lots of bucks & write countless porn words in the comment field (joke aside) :]

It's not a con, as long as you know where to use it your money is still good. The result of this debacle stems from a small group of people who are trying to game the system towards their favor. The reason that they can pull this off is due to the sudden influx of popularity and conformity of the currency (I blame the hipsters and Cypress). Bottom line: Buy BTC's if you only plan to spend it.

300 MHash/s is basically only about 1/3rd more than I'll get by running my videocard, and it'd still be topped by people who have AMD-based videocards. A 7970 can get 875 MHash/s.
That Jalapeno I ordered from BFL, on the other hand, will do 4500 MHash/s, and if you went and bought one today, you'd get one of the updated units that does 5000 MHash/s. Of course, you'd basically be paying twice of what I paid...

Using about 100 times more power. This is USB powered so it can't us more then 2.5W QUOTE That Jalapeno I ordered from BFL, on the other hand, will do 4500 MHash/s, and if you went and bought one today, you'd get one of the updated units that does 5000 MHash/s. Sorry to tell you be BFL not going to ship any time soon. It's been over half a year and they only recently showed some protypes that aren't even up to spec.

Yeah, I know that. I'm fine with waiting. I ain't got much other choice short of buying the bitcoins. I'll likely just mine on the GPU till I reach gold, and then once that thing arrives, that's when I'll try to go higher. Couldn't say it better myself. If you people want a gold star, then donate $100, simple as that.

So I was playing with the Linux CLI-based version of the Bitcoin client in order to prepare for directly interfacing the site with the network itself, when I noticed something odd about one of the transactions, which lead me to some fairly in-depth observations about how the client operates. While it is documented behavior, I figured I'd share, since it actually tells you how often you need to backup your wallet - I thought you had to do so every time you created a new address, but it turns out this isn't actually the case. The reason I noticed the odd thing in question was actually thanks to the analysis tools [ blockchain.info] here. I expected that when you sent coins from a Bitcoin address, it would just deduct the amount in question from that address. In my case, I was testing it by sending some fraction of a coin from 1F.. to 1K.., which is one of the addresses for my normal client. When I looked at the transfer, it did indeed send the expected amount to 1K.., but everything else that remained on that address was sent to another address 1Z.. which I didn't recognize, and which was not listed in any of my clients. Turns out, when you create your wallet, it doesn't just create that initial address you see listed, it actually creates a hundred hidden addresses as well. These are stored in the wallet, but are indeed not shown anywhere - they just sit around until needed. And every time you send bitcoins to anyone, one of these addresses are pulled as a one-time address where the remainder from the transfer - all inputs that are not fully spent - get sent. Similarly, when you create a new address for receiving coins, it pulls one of these hundred spare addresses. And every time one of them gets used, a new one is created and added at the end of the queue. Which brings us to the conclusion. It isn't necessary to create a backup of a wallet every time a new address is created, because the next one hundred addresses are already created and stored in your wallet. But make sure to take a new backup at least every 100 send transactions + created receive addresses, unless you want to lose whatever coins you have stored.

I was hoping to donate, maybe in a couple of months time, but with each new post, I get more confused too. Perhaps, a stickied guide to how to donate might be helpful.

You don't have to understand how the Translation Lookaside Buffer in a CPU speeds up virtual address resolution in order to use a computer. Same goes for Bitcoins. The GUI is really simple to use, the only complex part is finding the right place for you to actually obtain the coins.

Man, I really would like to donate, but this bitcoin thing is utter nonsense.
I tried to go to Mt.Gox and create an account, only to find out that I can't directly fund that account. I have to go to one of tens of other referred exchangers to actually put some money in. So I pick one the first one (AurumXchange) only to find out that they don't have an option for cash deposit funding, despite claiming to, so I decide to try their e-currency exchange program. Once again I find out that I must choose from another list of referred exchangers in order to add funds, so I pick the first one again (Liberty Reserve) and create an account there. Once I log in I find out that the only option to directly fund the account (credit card funding) is not available to unverified users and there is no option to verify your account. The only other way to add funds is to go to their list of over 100 referred exchangers they have. At this point I give up in frustration and am feeling this is all EXTREMELY fishy that I would have to go through so many referrers just to add funds to my original account.
All in all, this has been a very disappointing and frustrating experience. I'll try again tomorrow with Bitinstant, as they also have a cash deposit function and don't seem to lie about it.

Completely understandable (I don't like wasting 6-7gb space & screwing my CPU either) but try to avoid such arguments, it'll only cause facepalms to btc users. If transaction policies ever change in US (less strict at least) I'm sure Tenbo would bring the usual donation system as well.
