QUOTE(Irake @ Mar 26 2013, 07:54) Try googling or using paypal if you are so afraid of the Internet Exchanges. So yeah, I didn't even lose $2 on bank wire transfer charges/whatever.
Yeah, you want to know something? Almost nobody uses PayPal, because you can get the bitcoins and then undo the sending of money, thereby initiating a "chargeback". Only a few people use PayPal for bitcoins. And I've done trades with a few of them, but only because in the quantities I buy them in at a time (anywhere from $5 to $10 worth at a time), there's no real loss at those values. Be wary about using paypal. That's all I'm saying.

Yes, I know that and assume paypal users know that as well. I considered the spectra of people here, and concluded that they are most likely "buyers". Hence, we (the forumers/buyers) would be the ones with the power to make a charge back. I am replying to people here who are are concerned about their money being stolen from suspicious websites while trying to buy BitCoins. That was why I mentioned paypal. Getting someone else to sell you the money is another problem altogether. But there is a mirc channel for such things where you can try your luck. Of course one would have to consider the risk of their account being banned (which was already mentioned earlier. I have read the entire thread many times and assume others did as well.) Finally, I mentioned paypal as an afterthought "Try googling or using paypal". Anyway, people should just read the entire thread if they have difficulties donating. 1. Make Mt Gox account. 2. Authenticate account (Not the same as verifying account, which is for large amounts of money) 3. Transfer money into account under Trade-> Funding Options. (There's a number of ways to do that, check it out yourself) 4. Buy bitcoins in 'Trade' section. 2 Options:A. Select Market Order and buy your coins at market price (fluctuates), B. Type in 'Amount of BTC to buy' and 'Price Per Coin', and hope someone is willing to sell at that value. 5. Check your 'Wallet' for how much BTC you have (near the top right of page) 6. Use the donation link and type in how much you wish to donate. 7. Be redirected to Mt.Gox's payment page (will show you your BTC balance and Donation value in USD and BTC). 8. Click 'Pay Now'. 9. ?????? 10. Profit! (enjoy your donation tier privileges!) P.S: The steps should be right, though i can't really explain how to transfer money into your account, since there's quite a number of ways and the method of transferring might differ for each option. Also, I don't remember what exactly happens in step 9, whether they send you an e-mail informing you of the transection or not, or anything. Finally found a site that allowed me to transfer some money into my wallet. It felt kinda shady but it worked. Now i'm just waiting for Tenboro to PM me a wallet to send the money to. =)
The mining stuff worked aswell, but that would require months of farming and i bet at least one of my computers would've died from it, so i recommend people to check out some bitcoin websites instead. Try finding one of your own country and the transfer probably is easier than it was for me trying to get mt.Gox to work (Didn't have Valkrey's post above to guide me).
Also the BitcoinQT wallet program never worked for me (Synching stopped at 99% forever), so for those with the same problem, try using Multibit instead, worked fine so far.
It took a day or two to get this going, but now it feels close to where i finally get to donate some money.
Edit: Added comment about Valkrey's post.

You can transfer bitcoins to Mt.Gox and then donate. There were no additional charges for me.

Rikis was probably talking about transfering BTC from a wallet to Mt.Gox. But as far as i know, there isn't any charge exchanging your money to BTC once you money is in your Mt.Gox account. The charges are probably when you're transfering from an external account into Mt.Gox.

Mt Gox does charge a commission on trades (but not transfers). This is going to be 0.6% for anyone who has to ask (it's lower for people trade in BTC often, but the first decrease to 0.55% is at 100 BTC/month, which is presently 7500 USD/month trade volume).

Huh, so that's what that 0.6%<->0.55% bar is for. Good to know.

Uhm... i just got my gold star, but i also got some credits... is that intended?
Checked the amount i donated and i saw it is about the same as the amount of credits i got, so it probably is just that.
Edit: A whole bunch of edits.

Sheesh, too bad I have an nVidia card. Doesn't matter that it's a $1000 one - it's still getting only about 100 MHash/s per GPU, which (despite it being two GPUs) is 4-5x slower than a single AMD 7970. I'll get just over 200 MHash/s on this thing, but that 7970 will put out like 875.
Stupid SHA-256. But I refused to compromise on AMD's silly gaming performance.
That $125 ASIC is looking nice as I don't intend to do tons of Bitcoin mining (my GPUs would be much better served doing Folding@Home, where it is rather awesome as it should be), but it might take months for it to be delivered. Otherwise, I'd buy it and then have the coins before too long to recoup my investment and then some.
As it is, I might have to painfully grind out the funds over the next few months instead...

OK....
Lets see if i get this right: I creat an account at MtGox or whatever - i change my (real)money against Bitcoin i give these Bitcoins to Tenboro who can use it as he likes.
If these statements are wright, can we make this the payment for the "adoptaserver"? I tried these with that canadian bank(ot whateverthat was) and we couldnt get into business - dont know till today why.
Sorry for bothering you folks, but there really ARE days i am wishing back stoneage with nothing more to worry than Mammouth , wolves,Smilodon and that stuff - no computers!! Sigh ..what peaceful times...

There's no such thing like "real money" (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) QUOTE If these statements are wright, can we make this the payment for the "adoptaserver"?
Bitcoins can already be used to adopt a server, just PM Tenboro to create a bitcoin wallet for you. Just make sure you understand the idea of how bitcoins work first (before sending the PM), a lot of people struggle to understand this form of commerce.

This is a good graphic that describes Bitcoins in a pretty general way, courtesy of the IEEE Spectrum magazine. It doesn't really get into how you exchange government-backed fiat currency into bitcoins, since that can vary depending on your country and the particular exchange. Nor does it get into the details of the actual procedure to transfer bitcoins to another user since that can also vary slightly. Here's [ spectrum.ieee.org] the accompanying article, if you're interested.
