this shit is weird... seems like a total scam any direction you look trying to register for five different sites to get a couple coins to donate.
I'd like to, but while you're protecting the site, you're endangering everyone who's giving out bank info, cc nums and all the personal info requested through several different sites just to load some cash.
I know it's a tough situation and glad there's attempts to get around the hypocrite bank system that want's to control everything while making a huge profit... but this looks too dangerous for me.
Perhaps there is someone with a setup that is working reliably for them that can facilitate bitcoins to the site, but paypal between members? you know... like a cool ehentai member who can take a personal paypal then move through the bitcoin maze on our behalf? Thoughts?

What the hell are you on about. Protecting the site, how? This isn't about that, this is the only option I see to accept donations. Seeing as idiots can't understand to not write "PORN DONATION FOR PORN TO THE E-HENTAI PORN SITE PORN PORN" in the comment field when they donate, it's literally impossible to keep other options running. Also, what CC nums? Several different sites? You might have to validate your personal info with an exchange before they will accept bank transfers from you, but it's hardly more shady than what other online payment solutions ask you to do.

So you're more willing to trust some random user here than an established exchange?

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Mar 23 2013, 11:28) At the end of the day, the problem is with the large US-based credit card companies, who demand that everyone enforce strict "standards" about their content - and for the most part, that means no porn. By extension, that means that everyone who wants to deal with them has to do so as well.
("But Tenboro", I hear you say, "what about all those other porn sites who accept credit cards?" Well, they basically fall into two categories: safe vanilla porn, and fly by night sites that are small enough to go under the radar. We are neither.)
Is it the same with gift cards you can buy(no porn)

Big T, have you ever checked out [ www.paysafecard.com] Paysafecard? From glancing over it, it should take out the whole possibility for any end-users to screw up anything, as donators would just buy a code in a physical store in the vicinity of their homes and then enter said code here on the site. No room for any stupid yapping. (Thanks for pointing that out Tenseigamoon (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)) This post has been edited by binglo: Mar 24 2013, 03:16

About debit card I think Tenboro gave a clear answer with the comment fields & transaction issues in US, also there's nothing for this site to "protect" 'cause he's doing nothing else but following legal terms. If you don't understand why he's feeling awkward with "porn" spread then ask yourself why you're using anonymity while coming to this place. If it was possible to transform paypal donation into bitcoins to his receipt then I'm sure he wouldn't even suggest members to install a btc wallet & mining software. For the time being there's no general solution about debit cards, for now there's only bitcoin. QUOTE(binglo @ Mar 23 2013, 21:48) Big T, have you ever checked out [ www.paysafecard.com] Paysafecard? I'd like to point out to all the paranoid types out there that I had to give no personal info other than what was required to sign up for a basic Mt.Gox account to donate.
All I did was MoneyGram cash through a third-party processor (BitInstant to be precise) more or less directly to Mt.Gox, then exchanged the money in the Mt.Gox account for bitcoins and donated them to get my gold star. It took all of about two hours total from start to finish.
It may be different for other countries, but as a U.S. user it really was that simple.

Mtgox sign up, LR sign up, transfer site signup. Google any of them and get scam reports. Some are asking for scanned utility bills, or passports. If you don't see anything suspicious with a lot of the bitcoin options then you're a hell of a lot more trusting than me.
I'm not trying to rain on your bitcoin parade, and I understand you have few options... just saying a lot of the sites around it seem really risky.

I didn't give anyone my bank account or any scanned documents or anything. About the only thing i put out there at Mt. Gox is my name and e-mail address and BitInstant requires no personal info or sign-up...

Forgot about BitInstant. They were down when I started this process, so I wrote them off a while ago. Hit them up, took note of fees (like 4% from Mt Gox and then $4 from the intermediate), added a dollar to cover shenanigans. 9% on a $100 transaction is annoying, but at least not insulting like Wire Transfer. Now I has a star.

I've been trying a bit more now to get bitcoins to work, and i used Mulitbit as a wallet instead of the one that requires to download all blocks (It never synched past 99% for me, was completely stuck). I don't know if that works worse or not, but at least it gave me a wallet adress.
I joined splush's pool now and trying to get some coins (will probably take a year or so to get anything worth donating), but i only get CPU mining to work. I use GUIminer, but when i choose CUDA mining it points to a rpcminer-cuda.exe, that's not there. Does anyone know where i can find a version of GUIminer where that is included, or where i can download another miner that has GPU mining built in or something?

My brother's using GUIminer as well. We don't know much about how to set up the CUDA or other stuff, so we just used the 'default' OpenGL miner, and the GPU appears in the device dropdown menu. Edit: I'm using the version Tenboro linked in his OP This post has been edited by Valkrey: Mar 26 2013, 03:15

I do the same, so probably are using the GPU already. But all the processors are turned on and working on it, which was kinda misleading.

In my case it's not that simple, I can't even convert my real money currency into 'bitcoins' even if I want. And the nearby exchange costs a lot. My weekly wage only can afford around 9 bitcoins not including the tax, the charge (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) If including all the cost I got only 5 bitcoins / week for my full-fledged wage (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) So I guess I'll find an alternatives to donate... if possible (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Or start a business or something first --------- I've tried the CPU miner on one of my idle server but I think it doesn't work as beautiful as I want to be ( I don't have any GPU's to be used for miner (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) It makes the other process slow which kind of slows down my works, so I switch the bitcoin wallet off This post has been edited by Frostbite: Mar 26 2013, 08:46

I see people using raspberry pi's and smartphones for mining with ARM chips, hilarious.

Using my HD5770 at 80 MHash/s, I would need 100 days to mine USD$20 (around 10-20 hrs mining every day). Just some info in case you decide to waste 1 day of electricity trying to mine stuff. In my case, I found a local exchange in Singapore, which only charges 0.6% commission per BTC trade. I went to the local ATM, deposit to the website, bought some coins and imma now waiting for Tenboru to reply for his wallet address. =) Try googling or using paypal if you are so afraid of the Internet Exchanges. So yeah, I didn't even lose $2 on bank wire transfer charges/whatever. [ en.bitcoin.it] https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Buying_bitcoins
