QUOTE(mrhorseshoe @ Mar 16 2013, 20:57) All this hubbub got me to reinstall bitcoin and restore my old wallet from 2011 (I quit mining because BTC value was diving fast). Looks like I have around 6.5 BTC. Then I look at the current price and I spit out my cereal. Its over $40 now?! WTF!! Not really sure what I can buy with these BTC so I'll just donate it! Donation sent (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Lawls, I just sent my coins as a donation right away because I wanted the gold star. I'm sure the price of bit coins will go up a bit more so I'm holding off until it becomes stable.

Not familiar with that, but assuming it can send bitcoins to normal wallets, sure.

First off, glad donations have returned in some form. Gave me an excuse to get my money back for Payza that's been hanging around there for a bit (sent a request about a week ago, should be here soon). Second off, talk about a crash course in bitcoins. I picked up a Bitcoin wallet, and a GuiMiner, and apparently I'll make as it stands about $12/month (approx) through the slush. Although I'm not sure if I'm putting my Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti card through it's maximum potential at the moment as it's hovering around 83Mhash/s, so I'm still looking for information on that. Although can a CPU work this way as well? I wouldn't mind putting my i7-2600 CPU @3.4Ghz to use. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) After all with all the stuff I have going (utorrent, dc++, this game, a couple of odds and ends) I'm only working about 14% of the processing power; plenty to spare. Secondly, how would one attach a second computer to this setup? While definitely not as strong as this one, I wouldn't mind letting my second computer have some fun. At least 10 years old, and still working. After I get this all figured out, then I'll be sending some cash to Tenboro for a server slot, and at least the gold star, if not the Tri-Star (for now anyway). laters, RRViper (who's going in again to do some more reading)

Not worth it, you'll put in more power than you'll get BTC out the other end. The old box is even worse, modern CPUs are silly efficient compared to 10 year old ones (in fact, if that's a P4, you'll use as much power as that i7 for something like 1/10th of the BTC). Mining requires a lot of crunching power. This post has been edited by PK678353: Mar 18 2013, 08:05

looks like a lot of successful donating is happening...here's hoping Tenboro get's nice and content, and makes nice gifts fall from the HV sky! after all, that's the deal people usually make with the gods, right? the worshipers worship (play) and sacrifice (donate)...and then the gods show their munificence...

And AMD mining will likely be outclassed by ASIC mining. And hey, if we don't have to shut down by the time [ www.destructoid.com] everyone and their dog blocks ads, that's an added bonus.

So I've noticed. However the bigger thing I've noticed for the moment is the storage on the hard drive that's racking up (about 9GB in the past 24 hours). I only noticed since the my pc is giving me warnings that my primary drive is low on space. So what the heck is being stored, is it necessary to keep it around, and does anyone know a way to transfer it to an another location?
Actually got the matter solved, thanks to the help from the folks over at the Slush's pool chat area. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) laters, RRViper (who has a partitioned SSD and 3 external HD totaling coset to 9TB, and this thing decides to store it all on the smallest partition... sheesh) This post has been edited by RRViper: Mar 18 2013, 18:59

I always wondered why the "Ads-Be-Gone" hath perk is so cheap? Or exists at all? I really hate ads, so i just played HV a bit and i got rid of them. I might have donated otherwise. Maybe.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Mar 17 2013, 17:46) bitcoins to normal wallets...
I'm more interested for the opposite; instead of wasting my time with mining or whatever I'd prefer to buy bitcoins at least; there's no any easy services like Payza that can manage such transaction with a fee? P.S: also I've downloaded Bitcoin software from yesterday & the network synchronization is taking forever. After 8 hours the progress-bar shows around 86% & still there are 29210 blocks left, you're torturing me :<

Apparently [ mtgox.com] this site (Mt Gox) will give you what you're looking for if yyou want to buy. Keep in mind the price changes constantly depending on demand. Hmm didn't take me that long go figure. laters, RRViper (who's glad he's not saving the info from bitcoin to the SSD anymore. That was getting old fast.)

Unfortunately I can't share my bank account but this site looks like a very good recommendation for international transactions of BTC. Thanks for the effort though ^^

Uh. See the first post. It links to a list of exchanges, but like I've said before, you're not going to be able to buy Bitcoins from an exchange with anything that can be reversed. Which excludes credit cards and shit like PayPal. QUOTE(el h @ Mar 18 2013, 17:00) I always wondered why the "Ads-Be-Gone" hath perk is so cheap? Or exists at all? I really hate ads, so i just played HV a bit and i got rid of them. I might have donated otherwise. Maybe. Because I don't want to harass regular, dedicated members with ads. And besides, if people want to get rid of ads, they just block them - it's not possible to "force" anyone to donate in order to be rid of that. There's like 1300 people who bought that perk, and even if all of them visited every day and none of them blocked any ads, the difference in ad revenue would be negligible.

CoinBase (US) and Cavirtex (Canada) are both good sites for buying Bitcoins. I finally got a few of them recently while waiting for my miner to show up.

Has anyone found a good alternative to MtGox that works for Europe, where you don't have to scan a ID and send it to them...?

[ blockchain.info] blockchain.info is not bad. I use it from the UK and it is a reasonable exchange, its accepts payments through sofort therefore it is available from other european countries as well. Apart from the UK, I can confirm that it works well from Poland. No ID card needed, but you cannot do big transactions using blockchain. Unfortunatelly sofort is not available everywhere in europe: if you are in Ukraine or Croatia, for example, then I have bad news for you.
