Hello. I hope I’m in the right section, please warn me if I'm not.

E-hentai (and similar websites) is unfortunately banned in my country. I have to use a VPN in order to view the site. But when I do, after some time I receive a ban “Your IP address has been temporarily banned for excessive pageloads which indicates that you are using automated mirroring/harvesting software. The ban expires in 1 days and 12 hours”. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

Even though excessive pageloads is not something I’m doing nor it is my intention, it’s a side effect of using VPN. There was a similar problem with another website before and when I mailed them about it, they changed a configuration so that users with VPNs were able to view the site without any problems. So I’m hoping this is not something without a solution. But if it is, I understand.

My question is, is there any way for e-hentai to detect and/or exclude VPN users from their auto bans?

Thank you very much.

This has little to do with VPNs in general. You need an IP that isn't being used by several other users.

Do as me, ask your family not to download porn.

Or update to golden star, and the Image Limits is 50000.

Excluding VPNs from the autoban would effectively wreck EH as the main people slaughtering the servers are VPN users. I can't speak for the one and only administrator but that seems unlikely.

Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken (in which case I apologize) but I believe the excessive pageloads ban triggers when too many page queries have been sent too fast; upgrading to any star will actually make things worse since what will be banned is the account, not the IP.
(If that's what triggered the ban, the image limit is irrelevant. It is slightly different from a mere [httpstatusdogs.com] 509 unless the user keeps reloading in spite of the warning.)

In this situation, what needs changed is:
- geolocalization: pick a VPN/proxy that is seldom used - also, moving to a country that doesn't censor breathing is recommended for a slightly better everyday life whenever you get the chance
- browsing habits: if you use slideshow scripts or anything like that, nuke all of them from orbit; also disable silly browser options that cause excessive reloading

We don't treat Tor or VPN IPs any different from other IPs, nor do we plan to. As previously mentioned, any donation star will change everything from IP-based to account-based limits, but you don't need the gold star, just the $20 one.

So in short, this means that connecting to a pageload-banned VPN or proxy will get your account itself banned only if you are a donator; without a donation star it has no consequences. Correct?

Pretty much; as Tenboro stated, any star will tie the limits to the account, which leads to an account ban instead of an IP ban if the pageload limit is exceeded.

The limits usually are higher for donators, though, so unless you're botting or something, there shouldn't be any issue. Ask VriskaSerket or some other VPN user if they ever had any trouble.

EDIT: My phrasing was off. Thanks for the fix, boss.

No. Accounts are never "banned" or otherwise restricted just because the IP has been rate-limited. Having a star just means that IP history is not considered at all.
