I know that Ten mentioned something potentially relevant in the tweeted updates (some kind of corruption of new uploads), so I wonder if we should report such issues, or just let him handle it?

Definitely related. Since he hasn't mentioned anything specific yet, it's probably good to let him know this thread and the problem exists. Hopefully, people aren't flooding his inbox about this.

It's a collision, both images have the same hash.
Reuploading the image in a different format or with different quality settings would change the hash and (probably) solve the problem.

Is this a new problem?

I'd hope this is something Ten can fix, without the need for us to reupload the galleries.

Heh, that's a pretty funny bug. No, it's not related to the upload server problems, and no, it's not due to a hash collision. For reasons that are simultaneously complex and boring, in extremely rare cases where a certain database operation failed, the system could look up that particular picture as a pre-existing resize of any new file.

Fixed, anyway.

The paranoid side of me swore that it was on purpose for trolling though...I mean it just had to pick THAT picture, and picked it twice.

Sure it's fixed, but it could still end up being displayed until the cached data expires.

Incidentally, the odds of a hash collision for a random file uploaded to the site right now is 1 in 1.83 * 10^40.

So there are around... 12,500 unique files?
...that doesn't sound right, I must be doing something wrong.

Close to 50 million. Not counting thumbs.
