That looks amazing. You seem to have a really solid grasp on colors and... not really sure how to describe it, but atmospheric qualities.
I'm curious, which cons are you planning to attend? And by a mobile tablet, do you mean a small portable one, or one that's actually designed for mobile devices/tablets? If it's the latter, I don't think I've ever heard of a good one for artists to use.
Anything Wacom is leading the pack, but those prices are aiming more for big wig art directors (successful cover artists being a close runner-up). If I can land a good paying gig, then I could aim for one of the Cintiq Companions and even replace the one I already have. The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is a good alternative, I actually remember trying it at the local Staples. Good stylus with enough pressure sensitivity to allow me to paint what I need to, the zoom feature handles the rest. The price of the Surface is a lot more tolerable, but my next choice kinda keeps it at bay. I have an iPad 2 (from a batch 2 shipments after the release, so it didn't fizzle or nuke me) and used to possess a basic Jot stylus. Good precision, but there's no pressure sensitivity with the stylus I have. There is a Jot Script, price is kinda hefty for what it simply is, but it's all the more understandable especially when you read further into it. I'm just not sure if this Jot Script stylus would work with MY iPad 2. I remember seeing the iPad 2 on shelves for a while and those ones are a lot more recent and therefore more updated in technology. I'll keep looking into both, but I see myself making a decision in the coming 2 weeks.
In the not-so-far future, I'll be a lot more mobile. I'm attending Wizard World Comic Con in September, and possibly a convention in Brooklyn, NY in November (sorry, no NYCC this year). I'll also just show up at regular events in NYC, some of them I'll hold with my comic book crew.
Next year, I'll be returning to a few conventions like Hartford Comic Con, Special Edition NYC, MoCCA, then I'll be adding Atlantic City along with a good few others that I can catch during their registration periods, but that's later on. I just won't be home as much as expected.
I've been painting in black and white to practice values, but I've been paying attention to photos and just plain eyesight in daylight. When I'm not painting on Photoshop, I break out the acrylics and oil pastels. I can say I've been trying to emulate the effect, not to mistaken that with paper texture, but just the overall bloom and finish.
